Specialists try to find alternative medications to anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. They claim that athletes may soon have another way to bulk up. The Salk Institute has noted that the efforts of the specialists have got success. Late studies have displayed that blocking of a genome regulator which is known as “NCoR1” leads to enhacement of muscle mass, strength and endurance. The leader of the researches conducted in the Salk Institute, Ronald Evans, says that this knowledge may lead to development of certain new preparations which will benefit not only for sportspersons and bodybuilders who train but also for people that are sedentary.
The specialists of the Salk Institute notice about people who can’t perform physical exercises because they have different health problems, such as diabetes, frailty, immobility and other physical or psychological aspects which cause sedentarism. The specialists try to develop certain specific drugs that could benefit for sedentary persons so, as exercises benefit for healthy people. Now they experiment with sedentary mice.
As for anabolic steroids, they may lead to increase of muscle size in sedentary people. But individuals who use anabolic steroids should train and alter their diets in order to achieve better results.
If new drugs that block NCoR1 are developed by specialists successfully, they will cause significant changes in sedentary people. But could you imagine which positive effects will be caused in sportspersons?
But there is also an important difference between anabolic steroids and NCoR1 suppression. As it is known, anabolic steroids lead to unexpected symptoms; some of them may be quite dangerous for health and even for life. Furthermore, anabolic steroids may lead to serious unexpected symptoms especially in females. But as for NCoR1 suppression, specialists assure that medications which will suppress this genome regulator will not cause negative reactions.
There is an article about NCoR1 suppression which has got the following title: “NCoR1 Is a Conserved Physiological Modulator of Muscle Mass and Oxidative Function”. It describes results of various experiments which enrolled mice and nematodes. The experiments have shown that NCoR1 suppression benefits for muscle mass significantly. The mice with suppression of this genome regulator had more induced muscles and ran faster than others.
Unfortunately, the mice with NCoR1 suppression were not compared with the mice that received anabolic steroids. If these two types of mice were compared, the results of the experiments would be very valuable for further researches and conclusions.
It is possible to mention that elder individuals and people that have muscle dystrophy will be soon involved in researchers to check benefits of new potential medications.
